All Workers’ Movement of Public and Private Sectors
CELEBRATE LABOR DAY
WE DO NOT OWE AND SO WE DO NOT PAY
WE DO NOT GIVE UP OUR RIGHTS
International Workers Day/Labor Day signifies the struggles, sacrifices and conquests of the labor movement and reminds everyone that nothing was given for free. EVERYTHING was won through hard fights and struggles.
Today that capitalism is fighting back to re-distribute public wealth at bargain prices under the most unfa-vorable terms for workers, we are experiencing the most violent and fierce attack on the working class.
The neoliberal PASOK Government, in collaboration with the Troika, is liquidating public wealth at bar-gain prices and is using workers as guinea pigs to apply the devastating terms of the Memorandums in an effort to build a society with even bigger inequalities.
While, as it is becoming evident, the memorandums do not provide any solutions but they sink the coun-try into even harder recession, they are preparing the ground for a new, longer austerity period based on the agreement for the euro, rip apart social services and turn social benefits into marketable luxury items.
The constant measures for limiting the deficit and public spending are leading to one direction only: more taxes, less social benefits (benefits for the unemployed, for persons with Special Needs, for parents of large fami-lies, etc.), major cuts in salaries and pensions (auxiliary pensions, EKAS, etc.), increase of indirect taxation, new setbacks in social security, higher prices and poverty.
They are abolishing collective labor agreements and turning them into individual employment agreements so that they can exploit the working class even harder, they are eliminating all protective terms of labor law in an effort to establish a labor model that will allow them to increase their profits on the backs of the workers.
The consequences of their policies are now visible, since poverty levels are increasing, unemployment is actually exceeding 20% and has reached 37% amongst young people.
This is the result of the shocking policies applied by the government and the Troika, as well as the Euro-pean Union, who are pushing our society to poverty, unemployment and devastation.
We, the workers, know, however, that our conquests that are being taken down today were won through the Labor Days and struggles of the working class.
Labor Day 2011 will be the starting line for large scale rallies and fights in order to protect all that we won with blood.
We call upon all workers to stand against this tornado of destruction, to rise against this anti-labor attack and hit the streets in order to build our own Labor Days, to resist and overturn these anti-labor policies.
